Spite week: homesick for Azeroth

So I’ve mentioned I’m a terrible fucking nerd, right? Okay, with that out of the way, sometimes I really miss Azeroth. Back in the day (not so long before the Lich King expansion came out) I used to raid regularly with some former coworkers. My raid schedule was so regular that all of my friends knew not to ask me to do anything on those days because I was always busy. Honestly, it wasn’t so bad to  have those two days a week back after our guild fell apart, and I didn’t exactly hate having to do my dailies or keep up on potion ingredients either.

But I still miss Azeroth sometimes. I spent so much time there, it was a refuge when other parts of my life kind of sucked. I still vividly remember levelling with a friend during a heat wave – I swear running quests through a snowy valley made the heat even worse in real life. Parts of Azeroth were incredibly beautiful too, especially some of the elven territories that I can’t remember the names of since it’s been so long since I was there.

It’s a weird sensation to miss a place that you’ve never physically been and that doesn’t strictly exist. I don’t even want to go back there to stay, I have way too many other things I want to do and I just don’t have time anymore, but sometimes it would be nice if I could get, say, a week-long tourist visa 🙂

  1. I used to play, too. I never got to running raids because my friends changed servers so often, and were just moving their characters from one server to another as well (which was costly, btw). So I never made it to pretty much any of the high level content. That and my friends all played one faction and I played the other most of the time.

I miss it, though. I just don’t have the attention span for it.

  2. I believe you can play on a starter account free to level 20, although with how fast things level now 20 takes a couple of hours. It might be enough to get your fix?

The pre-patch for the next xpac just came out, so I doubt they’ll be having a $5 batle chest deals (that include 1 month game time) for the next few months.

The last xpac was terrible… like really bad.

  3. I feel exactly this way about Second Life. Some friends of mine had a Tolkien-themed sim, and I spent so many hours designing buildings and putting together avatars/clothing and coming up with roleplay scripts. It was very absorbing and definitely a “place” I knew and loved, even if it was never anything I could physically touch. Helped that one of my best friends was there with me and we spent so much time being elves or Valar and talking about whatever with each other. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been able to go back–and I think most of the people have wandered off to other things–but I do get homesick sometimes.

…now I need to get my Mass Effect game to work again, because I feel the same way about the Normandy. 🙂

  4. I played years ago. Had a level 80 Warlock called Darth Bladder. Had some fun times on the old world. Been revising old classics like Bioshock recently. Love games that tell a story through the world they imagine. I love that gaming odd now the the biggest medium on the world, but I do miss the early days written the programmers produced their game’s on their bedrooms rather than their being teams of thousands. As an aside, No Mans Sky is looking promising.

    • Apologies for the abject typing. Small phone screen. Let’s try again.

There. Fixed. Probably best not to post when I’ve just woken up in future.

  5. I had an amazing femdom relationship in wow, I still think about it now even though it was 6 years ago. I did sooooo many chores, kept her in mounts and whatever else she wanted, gathered and made pots so she could raid, worked the auction house to keep her in gold. I was her slave, her companion, her property and it was so damned real and satisfying even though it was just a game…

    /huge sigh
